When Carter Hansen, a guy who brings back horrible memories from the night of the accident, finds his way back into her life, Holly’s unsure if she should let him in. He terrifies her in more ways than one and invokes feelings in her that she thought were buried forever. Regardless of her fears, she knows she must face him in order for her heart to heal.
Everyone tells Carter that what happened on the mountain that night was just a terrible accident, but even then, he can’t help but carry around the guilt and is unable to forgive himself. He’s drawn to Holly and being near her helps ease his conscience and gives him the release he needs.
As Holly and Carter’s relationship grows, they begin to realize that the more time they spend with one another, the more their wounds begin to heal—her grief and his guilt. But when Holly learns the details about the night of the accident—what everyone has been keeping from her—it will rip open old wounds and tear apart what they’ve both worked so hard to overcome…
"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next"
~ Gilda Redner
Oh my wow! After reading the synopsis I knew that this would be a good book but I was not expecting it to blow me away. It is beautiful, emotional and will easily captivate you until the very last page.
Fall From Love, begins and we are introduced to Holly, she is a 21 year old college student and is happy...in love with her boyfriend of two years Adam and planning her future. Holly's whole world changes when she receives a phone call notifying her that there has been an accident and she needs to get to the hospital. Everything Holly wanted, all their plans for the future and a happily ever after come crashing down when she arrives at the hospital and her fear becomes reality when she gets the horrible news that Adam didn't make it...
Spending her whole summer depressed and broken she reluctantly agrees with her best friend and roommate Jenna that it's time she tries to get some semblance of her old life back and figure out a way to move on without Adam. Starting with a night out at their old favorite hangout- Sterling's. What Holly doesn't know though is that this one night will begin to bring her the closure she needs and will begin to heal the heart she wished would just stop beating.
Holly and Carter are both ah-mazing. They are both broken, grieving and trying to find a way to make sense of this life-if it's even worth living or maybe it's just better to go through the motions and pretend. From their first interaction I wanted nothing more than for them to make it work, to break down the walls, and barriers, get through their fears of loss and guilt and find their way out of the darkness that surrounds both of them. The unexpected friendship they form is beautiful and the gradual build-up of their feeling- the solace and happiness they find in each other was so well written that it will pull on all your heartstrings and you will not only want but need to see Holly and Carter get their happy ending.
Another reason I loved Fall From Love was Jenna and Josh, oh my god Holly and Carter tore me apart and Jenna and Josh had me laughing uncontrollably at times. Jenna is the bestest- best friend a girl could ever ask for, she is strong, resilient and is not willing to let her BFF waste away and sink into a hermit hole. She also always has Holly's back no matter what and proves throughout the book that she's willing to do anything to help her heal. For me bff's in books are either a hit or miss, but in Fall From Love both Jenna and Josh are amazing friends and have been written to perfection. They both sincerely want nothing more than to see the two people they care most about (other then each other) happy and will do whatever it takes to make them both realize that happiness and love may be right in front of them.
"I learned a lot in my four years of college, but it was more about life, love, loss and finding out who I really am...I learned that having good friends is one of the most important things in life and that, without them, your life will be empty"
Heather London has written a heart-stirring and emotional novel about overcoming loss and sorrow, letting go of guilt and finding a way to move on with life through the power of true friendship and undeniable love. I would recommend Fall From Love to everyone because Holly and Carter's story is painfully real and so beautiful it should not be missed.
